Front and Rear Dash Cams

A front-only camera can’t see the car that runs into the back of you. Front and rear dash cams record both directions at once, so rear-enders, tailgaters and reversing knocks are all on the card. Choose the VisionPro VP19 for 4K front, Full HD rear and 4G live view, the MyDean S9QQ for 2K QHD at both ends, or a 3-channel system like the VisionPro VP20 or MyDean MK300 if you also want the cabin.

The rear camera needs a cable run the length of the car, so we recommend professional fitting. Front and rear installation in Sydney starts from $199.

Why add a rear camera?

Plenty of incidents happen behind you: rear-end collisions, tailgaters, and the car that clips you while you reverse out of a tight spot. A front and rear system records both views to the same card with a matching time stamp, which is exactly what an insurer wants to see.

2-channel, 3-channel or 4-channel?

System What it records Best for IRWAY range
2-channel Road ahead + behind Most private drivers VisionPro VP19, MyDean I9, MyDean S9QQ
3-channel Ahead, behind + cabin Rideshare, taxi, fleet VisionPro VP20, MyDean MK300
4-channel Front + three extra cameras Vans, trucks, commercial MyDean Z400W

Wired vs “wireless” front and rear

This trips up a lot of buyers. When a listing says wireless, it almost always means the camera connects to your phone by Wi-Fi. The rear camera is still cabled to the front unit, because that’s how you get reliable, synced rear video. Every front and rear system we sell uses a wired rear connection. On the VisionPro the rear cable is about 6 metres, and a 12-metre extension ($19 at checkout) covers utes, vans and longer vehicles.

Can I install it myself?

The front camera, yes. The rear is where DIY jobs go wrong: the cable has to be tucked into the headliner, down a pillar and around curtain airbags without loosening trim. Get it wrong and you have rattles at best and an airbag obstruction at worst. That’s why most people have the rear fitted. Sydney front and rear installation, with hidden wiring and parking-mode setup, starts from $199.

Resolution: 4K front, Full HD rear

Plate detail matters most in front, so put your resolution there. The VisionPro VP19 runs 4K front and Full HD rear, which covers the back without doubling your storage. If you’d rather have equal clarity both ways at a lower price, the MyDean S9QQ records 2K QHD front and rear on a Sony STARVIS IMX335.

Night vision, parking mode and storage

Look for a Sony STARVIS sensor with WDR on at least the front camera. For 24/7 cover, parking mode records both channels while you’re away, which needs hardwiring, an OBD power cable or a battery pack. Two channels fill a card twice as fast, so budget for 128GB or more.

Front and rear dash cam FAQ

What are the benefits of a front and rear dash cam?

It records the road ahead and behind at once, covering rear-end collisions, tailgaters and reversing knocks, with time-synced footage for claims.

Can I install a front and rear dash cam myself?

The front is DIY-friendly. The rear cable runs through the headliner and a pillar, around airbags, which is why most people have it professionally fitted. Sydney installation starts from $199.

What is the difference between wired and wireless front and rear dash cams?

Wireless usually means the camera connects to your phone by Wi-Fi. The rear camera is almost always cabled to the front unit for reliable, synced video.

How long is the rear camera cable?

About 6 metres on the VisionPro. A 12-metre extension is available for utes, vans and longer vehicles.

Do front and rear cameras record at night?

Yes. Quality depends on the sensor and WDR. Our front and rear systems use Sony STARVIS sensors on the front camera.

My rear camera isn’t recording. What should I check?

Check the rear cable is fully seated at both ends, the microSD card is high-endurance and formatted, and the firmware is up to date. If the cable was disturbed during fitting, have it rechecked.
